ICF priorities: education, ethics and the environment
During the General Council Meeting the Executive Committee announced several new ICF initiatives.
Education concerning cremation, both inside and outside the cremation industry, is clearly the key to the future. In some countries of the membership excellent programs exist for education and training. In other countries there is a clear lack of this. In order to facilitate education programs and support our members in setting these up, funds are needed next to expertise. The Executive Committee will earmark a sum of euro 35.000 for this purpose.
Ethics are perhaps the most difficult subject in any profession. To establish an accepted code of best practice is needed and will have to take into consideration traditions, habits and cultural aspects of any part of the worldwide membership. The Executive Committee will charge our Ethical Sub-Committee with this task and will earmark a sum of euro 35.000 for this purpose.
In most countries of the world sustainable development and the future of our planet are high on the list of priorities. The question “What is cleaner: Cremation or Burial?” is often raised. With new laws being implemented in many of our member states, concerning filtration equipment, the cremation process has changed significantly as far as emissions to air are concerned. The Executive Committee has decided to charge our Technical Committee with the important question regarding cremation versus burial in relationship to the burden on the environment. The Executive Committee will earmark a sum of euro 35.000 for this purpose.
